The sum of two numbers is 45. One number is 12 more than the other. What are the two numbers?
Let the smaller number be xxx.
The larger number is x+12x + 12x+12.
x+(x+12)=45x + (x + 12) = 45x+(x+12)=45
2x+12=452x + 12 = 452x+12=45
2x=45−122x = 45 - 122x=45−12
2x=332x = 332x=33
x=16.5x = 16.5x=16.5
The two numbers are 16.5 and 28.5.
